Overview

Join ILPQC for an immersive and interactive workshop covering the basics of trauma-informed and collaborative care in the obstetric setting. This program utilizes various learning platforms to present the material:

  • Didactic Lectures: Introduction to psychological trauma and its relevance in the peripartum period, along with communication strategies for optimal outcomes.

  • Case Exploration: Small group discussions to address perspective taking and management of acute stress responses.

  • Simulation Exercises: Practical exercises to reinforce new skills in a variety of challenging scenarios.

Final Debriefing

Time will be allocated for final debriefing, questions, self-care, and reflection prior to the completion of the workshop. 


Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Realize the widespread impact of trauma in our society and identify sources of trauma in our patients with a focus on the obstetric patient and their family.
  2. Recognize signs and symptoms of unresolved psychological trauma in patients and providers.
  3. Apply evidence-based communication strategies to establish patient trust and co-create culturally responsive care plans.
  4. Demonstrate ability to explain risks and benefits to patients ensuring their understanding and validating their perspectives, while discussing alternative approaches to care that are mutually acceptable to all.
  5. Demonstrate tangible skills to prevent traumatizing and re-traumatizing patients.
  6. Understand the core principles of Trauma-informed Care.
