About

Mission Statement

Endeavor Health: Edward-Elmhurst Hospitals and their respective medical staffs believe that continuing medical education is fundamental to quality patient care. The accredited CME program works to effectively offer educational programs that assist the healthcare team in maintaining excellence in professional competence, performance, and patient outcomes.

Purpose

The purpose of the Endeavor Health: Edward-Elmhurst Hospitals' accredited CME Program is to support Edward and Elmhurst hospitals' commitment to improving health and patient care through quality, evidence-based educational activities. This goal is accomplished by producing high-quality education for healthcare professionals that increases competence, performance, and patient outcomes.  The accredited CME program is uniquely qualified to support and influence Edward-Elmhurst Hospitals' goals by developing programs based on the principles outlined by the Illinois State Medical Society and ensuring continuing compliance with state recommendations. This is achieved in the following manner:

- The Program & Education Committee, an interdisciplinary group from Edward Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital, and Linden Oaks Hospital, includes representatives from the medical staff, administrative staff, nursing, and other health professions, oversees the approval of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for the accredited CME program.

- Educational needs are identified by reviewing data from medical staff meetings, trends in national and local healthcare, literature reviews, input from the risk and quality improvement departments, new technology and/or programs, and other system initiatives.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Edward-Elmhurst Hospitals' accredited CME Program mission supports the system’s overall goal of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Action (IDEA).  In doing so, the Accredited CME program engages in ongoing, systematic, and focused efforts to attract and retain diverse committee members, speakers, and participants. This diversity is reflected in age, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation/gender identity, career roles, and life experiences. The accredited CME Program and the Program & Education Committee believe that participants of CME activities learn best in a diverse environment characterized by and in support of inclusion, diversity, equity, and action. The Program and Education Committee believes such an environment helps providers understand the healthcare needs of diverse, underserved, and multidimensional communities to provide the best possible care. The accredited CME program's mission statement supports inclusion, diversity, equity, and action through the following ways:

(1) Recognizing healthcare disparities and developing accredited CME activities to help support solutions to those burdens.
(2) Realizing the importance of meeting the healthcare needs of underserved populations and developing the accredited CME activities needed to help providers deliver effective, equitable care in multidimensional, diverse society.
(3) Identifying the educational needs of providers on topics of inclusion, diversity, equity, and action in healthcare, and supporting the system's initiatives in its educational goals of IDEA.

Target Audience

Learning activities are planned and implemented for the healthcare team at the system-wide, department, and subspecialty levels and are accessible to all healthcare professionals.

Types of Activities

Expert presenters are chosen, and programs are designed to fulfill the identified educational gaps and need using a variety of formats, including small group discussions, panel discussions, case presentations, didactic lectures, online/enduring material, regularly scheduled series, and other formats as considered appropriate.

Content

We work in collaboration with various departments and specialties to plan educational activities that focus on the six core competencies of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the five core competencies of the Institute of Medicine (IOM), the AMA PRA skills/procedures competencies, and four core competencies of the Interprofessional Education Collaborative:

Practice-based learning and improvement
Professionalism
Systems-based Practice
Interpersonal and communication skills

Institute of Medicine

The content of Accredited CME activities includes clinical and non-clinical concerns, such as socioeconomic, cultural, public health, technology, ethical/legal, and professional development. Edward-Elmhurst Hospitals, their administration, and their medical staffs provide resources and funding to support the accredited CME program.

Expected Results

Educational activities sponsored by Edward-Elmhurst Hospitals' accredited CME Program are planned and implemented using needs assessment data and identified education gaps to determine the content and education method appropriate for the target audience and subject matter. Participants in accredited CME activities sponsored through our accredited CME program are expected to integrate what they learn into practice to improve competence and performance in patient care, patient safety, and professional practice. The Program and Education Committee monitors the impact of the program regularly. Competency measurements include participant post-activity evaluations, chart reviews, and follow-up surveys. In addition, participants are asked how they plan to apply knowledge to reflect evidence-based practice and quality improvement. The Program and Education Committee identifies, reviews, and measures activities as needed.

Core Values

Collaboration

We partner with community healthcare leaders in Joint Providerships to provide quality educational experiences to learners.

Programs

Edward-Elmhurst Hospitals provide a variety of topics for learners. From Acupuncture to Diversity to Emotional Intelligence to Adolescent & Young Adult Bleeding Disorders to Physician Well-Being, the subject matter is endless. The array of topics covers all areas of physician attributes and is designed to enhance the provider’s ability to deliver quality patient care, work within multidisciplinary teams fostering teamwork and professionalism, and care for their own well-being.

The ACME Department has developed tutorials for our CloudCME™ platform for users and faculty to provide the best user experience. CloudCME™ has both a computer-based platform and mobile app and we have developed video tutorials and handouts to assist users and planners with using this great tool! Click on the Resources tab in CloudCME™ to find the links to these tutorials.

Joint Providership

The ACCME defines Joint Providership as the providership of a CME activity by one or more accredited and one or more non-accredited organizations. Accredited CME providers that plan and present one or more activities with non-accredited providers are engaging in “joint providership.” The accredited provider must take responsibility for a CME activity when it is presented in cooperation with a non-accredited organization and must use the appropriate accreditation statement.  Joint Providership gives accredited organizations the opportunity to collaborate with non-accredited organizations to enhance the diversity and value of their offerings. Edward-Elmhurst Health encourages non-accredited healthcare organizations to work with our team to provide continuing medical education. We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with the community and other non-commercial parties.

If I Want to Offer a Joint Providership With Edward-Elmhurst Health (EEH), What Should I Do?
The first step is to review the EEH CME Program Mission and Purpose Statement and determine if your program meets the EEH purpose and mission. If it does, complete the online CME Joint Provider Request Form to the right. A CME department staff member will reach out to you to begin next steps.  An online application will need to be completed a minimum of 3 months prior to an activity. The application is reviewed by the Edward-Elmhurst Health Program & Education Committee, and if the activity meets the ACCME criteria and is in-line with the EEH CME Program mission and purpose, the contact person listed on the application will receive a Joint Providership Agreement to be executed by both organizations to begin the planning process.

What Do I Need to Know About the Activity Before I Begin?
A principal planner with clinical knowledge to identify physician practice gaps, educational need (knowledge, competence, or performance), provide references in the form of links to websites or publication information, identify outcomes, do content reviews, or monitor session to resolve conflicts of interest. This can be one individual or a planning committee. This role is critical to completing the application, but also throughout the process. It is important that this resource be able to respond to emails or phone calls during the process.

Administrative support is needed throughout the process. This resource is likely a main contact person and serves as a “go-to” person. Tasks may include:

(1) Communicating with planners and speakers to request disclosure forms and resolve conflicts
(2) Submitting application and agenda for consideration
(3) Receiving and paying the invoice
(4) Ensuring completion of disclosures and speaker agreements by due date
(5) Sending marketing materials to Main Line Health for approval and making revisions
(6) Sending all required information for approval
(7) Use the Joint Providership Interest Form to begin the planning process and we can help navigate you through the rest of the requirements.

What Happens After a Joint Providership Activity Is Approved?
EEH CME Department staff partners with your staff throughout the development and execution of the activity to ensure they have reviewed and understand the ACCME guidelines. The non-accredited provider maintains control of program development, budget, logistics, marketing, revenue generation, on-site management, etc. EEH CME Department staff provides templates and other relevant information associated with the learning activity. EEH Program & Education Committee confirms how many AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ the activity is eligible for after reviewing the final educational program outline. EEH ACME Department staff is available to answer questions and offer guidance on complying with the ACCME guidelines.

(If you wish to submit an application for credit for an activity, please email [email protected] prior to beginning the application process so we can ensure you have appropriate access.)
