About

Edward-Elmhurst Health’s Department of Continuing Medical Education (CME) assists providers throughout the system maintain, develop, and increase the competence, skills, performance, and relationships they use to provide services to patients, the public, and the profession.  This is done by promoting excellence in patient care and safety through accredited educational activities that are clinically significant, evidence-based, and range from a variety of health sciences disciplines as well as leadership and interpersonal concentrations.

Expert presenters are chosen and programs are designed to fulfill the identified educational needs using a variety of formats including lectures, panel discussions, case presentations and other formats as deemed appropriate.  The System CME program works in collaboration with various departments and specialties to plan educational activities that focus on the six core competencies of the American Board of Medical Specialties, five core competencies of the Institute of Medicine, and four core competencies of the Interprofessional Education Collaborative.

Educational activities are directly sponsored by the Edward-Elmhurst Health CME Program and are free to participants unless otherwise noted.  It is expected that participants in CME activities sponsored through the system CME program integrate what they learn into their practice to improve their competence and performance in areas of patient care, patient safety, and professional practice.  The Program and Education Committee monitors the impact of the program regularly.

The Edward-Elmhurst Health CME program is one that highlights innovation, the latest treatments and technologies, and information that helps clinicians in all aspects of providing care for the patient and themselves.  Edward-Elmhurst Health has been granted Accreditation with Commendation for its commitment to Excellence.

Edward-Elmhurst Health and their respective Medical Staffs believe that continuing medical education is fundamental to quality patient care and work together to offer educational programs assisting physicians and other clinicians in maintaining excellence in professional performance.

The purpose of the Edward-Elmhurst Health System CME program is to support the system’s commitment to improving health and patient care through quality evidence-based educational activities.  This goal is accomplished by producing high quality education that increases the knowledge, competence and performance of physicians and other healthcare professionals.  The system CME program is uniquely qualified to support and influence the system’s goals by conducting programs based on the principles outlined by the Illinois State Medical Society and assure continuing compliance with state recommendations.

The learning activities are planned and implemented for physicians at the system-wide, department, and sub-specialty levels, and are also accessible for all health care professionals.

If you are a planner of an activity, please be sure to read the process and instructions for applying for CME Credit carefully before you begin planning your event: CME Activity Planning Toolkit and the Speaker Information & Instructions.
