Overview

The Pink and Pearl Symposium is an educational initiative designed to raise awareness and support for both breast and lung cancer. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Illinois, while lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. This symposium brings together multidisciplinary experts to review the latest advances in screening, diagnosis, and treatment. By highlighting current clinical evidence and emerging therapeutic strategies, the symposium aims to enhance healthcare professionals' knowledge, promote collaborative care, and improve patient outcomes across the continuum of cancer care.


Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Describe the history, mission, and impact of the Pink and Pearl Symposium
  2. Review evidence-based recommendations for breast cancer screening
  3. Explain the role of genetic testing and risk assessment in breast cancer care
  4. Identify high-risk patients and apply risk-based breast cancer screening and prevention strategies
  5. Evaluate breast imaging, including emerging applications of artificial intelligence (A.I.)
  6. Identify eligible patients and apply evidence-based lung cancer screening recommendations
  7. Discuss recent advances in thoracic surgery and their clinical implications
  8. Describe postoperative care, survivorship, and quality-of-life considerations after thoracic surgery
  9. Interpret thoracic imaging findings to support diagnosis and management
