Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (FCCS) is a 2-day course intended to teach non-intensivists the basics of assessment and management of acutely ill patients. The complexity of the critical care environment demands a minimum level of knowledge, skills, and attitude to manage the care of critically ill patients. This effective program incorporates didactic and simulation scenarios to assess competence and teach evidence-based practice while maintaining patient safety and quality care. This FCCS course offers non-critical physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and other providers not formally trained in critical care a systematic approach to initial management of the acutely ill patients.

1. Prioritize the assessment and initial stabilization of critically ill and injured patients.
2. Select and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests to guide clinical decision-making.
3. Identify and respond to changes in patient condition that require urgent intervention.
4. Recognize and apply evidence-based management strategies for common acute life-threatening conditions.
5. Determine when specialty consultation or transfer to a higher level of care is indicated .

Physician Credit
