Registration

Registration is required for this online activity so that we can appropriately track necessary requirements for our Trauma Level Certification for Joint Commission.  Due to requirements of our CME accreditation, credits are not applied until the Post-Test and evaluation/follow-up survey are completed.  This activity was designed for Trauma providers, however all clinicians are welcome to participate in the activity.

JOURNAL CME: Edward-Elmhurst Health provides AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ with a pre/post-test and self-assessment component to ED and Trauma physicians for selected trauma related articles from various peer-reviewed journals. Other healthcare providers (RN, PA, etc.) can also claim continuing education credits by reading journal articles and completing the online courses and taking the completion certificate to apply to their own professional licensure requirements. At the completion of each course, participants receive a PDF certificate to download, and credit is applied to the online transcript.  (Please note:  EEH is currently only accredited to provide AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ to physicians.)

CONTENT:
EEH’s online courses consist of Trauma specific articles and relevant peer-reviewed articles that apply to trauma care. All courses are currently 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Each course is assigned quarterly to the trauma team; however, other healthcare providers are welcome to complete the courses. New content is added quarterly, so please check back often.

COST:
All online courses are offered free of charge to Edward-Elmhurst Health providers.

ACCESS:
If the Journal CME course is not assigned, participants must register for the course before being able to access the content. Once registered, click on the “Begin Course” button to access the content. Content can be accessed via computer, tablet, or smartphone.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS: 
To gain credit for this online activity, participants must read the entire article, complete the post-test with a 90% pass rate. Participants will have three attempts to complete the post-test. If additional resources are provided, participants must attest to the review of those resources. If discussion is required, participants are taken to a new window to complete the online discussion portion of the course. Course completion also requires that an evaluation be completed before credits are applied. This includes a short practice change follow-up survey.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS:  Participants will need a computer with access to the internet complete this Journal CME. Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader are required to review the selected articles.

ESTIMATED COMPLETION TIME:  Is dependent on the individual learner and the number of pages in the article.

Each article focuses on the practical application of the evidence for trauma topics including evolving diagnostic procedures, therapeutic techniques, best practices and guidelines, normal and abnormal trauma conditions, and more. Each article is written and peer-reviewed by practicing, experienced physicians and is selected by the department chair to provide education on topics of critical importance to patient safety, quality, and healthcare delivery to trauma patients for evaluation and management of care.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Explain the underlying principles for diagnostic examinations and therapeutic techniques described for trauma patients.
  2. Analyze and compare guidelines and recommendations for a variety of normal and abnormal trauma conditions.
  3. Distinguish the evolving evidence and approaches to diagnosis and treat trauma patients and appropriately apply to practice.
  4. Implement best practices in patient safety, quality assurance, and healthcare delivery in trauma patient evaluation and management.
