Overview

In 2019, stroke accounted for approximately 1 of every 19 deaths in the United States. In 2020, there were 7.08 million deaths attributable to cerebrovascular disease worldwide. The goal of morbidity and mortality case reviews (M&Ms) is to identify correctible deficiencies in provider practices, system failures, and patient behaviors to improve future patient outcomes. This activity is a morbidity and mortality (M&M) review for Stroke cases. M&Ms are key opportunities for clinical staff to engage in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary case-based discussion and work toward the processes of patient safety and quality improvement. This activity was designed to address the important opportunities that M&M reviews provide for knowledge and competence of Stroke health outcomes.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Critically analyze selected stroke and neurovascular cases to determine appropriate treatment and follow-up care of neuro-cerebrovascular patients.
  2. Examine recent advances in the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of neurovascular and stroke patients.
  3. Incorporate principles learned in subsequent care of stroke patients.
