Overview
Cardiac M&M brings doctors together to examine cases in an effort to increase their skill. The conference is also implicit acknowledgment of the importance of confronting error, and it inevitably models the ways in which this can be done. Learning from mistakes and confronting error, are central to the medical profession and form the basis of our belief that the M&M has importance in medical training. Professionals improve their skill through reflection on actions and the subsequent outcomes. An M&M conference assures that such reflection occurs in critical cases. The CV M&M conference provides an opportunity to explore the records and specifics of care and revisit errors or unanticipated complications to gain insight for quality improvement. The ultimate goal of CV M&M is to provide a forum for physicians and other clinical providers to explore details of cases where in morbidity or mortality occurred and learn from those cases.
