Nearly everyone has a degree of spinal disk degeneration after the age of 40. While it may not cause symptoms in everybody, around 5% of adults may develop back pain due to disk degeneration. This activity provides a fresh overview by non-surgical and surgical specialist that diagnose and treat lumbar disc disease. This presentation examines the natural progression of lumbar disc disease and the evolution of the methods of treatment.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Describe lumbar disc disease, including asymptomatic degeneration, symptomatic herniation, and recovery, demonstrating comprehension of the disease’s natural progression.
  2. Analyze and compare different prognostic factors affecting the outcomes of lumbar disc disease, such as age, activity level, and comorbidities, to evaluate the influence on disease progression and management strategies.
  3. Evaluate various treatment options for lumbar disc disease and make informed recommendations based on individual patient factors.
