Overview
High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is the most common medical problem encountered during pregnancy, complicating up to 10% of pregnancies. Woman who have chronic hypertension can also develop preeclampsia in the second or third trimester of their pregnancy.  Preeclampsia happens to 1 in 25 pregnancies in the United States. It can be a serious medical condition and needs to be treated to make sure it doesn't get worse. High blood pressures can occur postpartum and usually develop within the first 48 hours after childbirth, but can sometimes develop up to 6 weeks or later. This activity will help improve knowledge of providers about the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension during pregnancy, management of preeclamspia and postpartum hypertension.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. 1. Describe the pathophysiology of preeclampsia
