Please READ VERY CAREFULLY.   You can use your browser's print button to print this page.

Congratulations on completing the first step in the process of joining the Edward Hospital Medical Staff.  If you have been assigned this course, the final authorization of credentialing is pending Quality Committee of the Board approval of your application. This approval, and completion of the New Provider Orientation Online course requirements, completion of your Epic training requirements, and any other credentialing requirements means you could be granted medical staff privileges by the end of the month. You have 2 weeks to complete your online course requirements.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are also being credentialed at ELMHURST Hospital, you will also need to complete the ELMHURST HOSPITAL Online Orientation Module and process and follow their credentialing guidelines separately from the EDWARD Hospital credentialing and orientation process and guidelines. Please contact the credentialing coordinator processing your application at ELMHURST for specific details.

There are 3-4 parts to this process to obtain privileges dependent on the provider’s status:

  • New Provider Online Orientation Courses (Assigned Course Content)
  • New Provider Surgical Orientation - IN PERSON
    (for Surgeons/Anesthesiologist/Urologists/OB-GYN/CRNA’s Only)
  • Epic Provider Training & Personalization Lab (An Epic Trainer will reach out after online course completion)
  • Security ID Badge & Parking Permits - IN PERSON scheduled appointment
(Scheduling required AFTER all online course completion)

You may pause and return to the courses at any time by logging in and going to the Non-CME Activities tab, clicking on Edward New Provider Orientation, and clicking on the black Course Content button.

PART ONE:

In anticipation of your final approvals, complete the mandatory Online New Provider Orientation courses assigned to you.  Allow enough time to complete all parts of the coursework - a MAXIMUM of 2 weeks. It is suggested that you begin completion of the forms and course content at least three weeks prior to your scheduled start date to ensure nothing is outstanding and your privileges can be activated by your anticipated start date. The Online New Provider Orientation courses take approximately 3-4 hours to complete depending on the individual provider. Upon completion of each course section, there is a required quiz in order to proceed. The quiz summary is automatically forwarded to the Medical Staff Office for retention in the provider's credentialing file.  This is required to prove competency and completion.  Providers must also complete the post-test attestation indicating they are the ones completing course content.

The Medical Records Signature Page is required to be emailed to Kelly.Gratzke@EEHealth.org in medical records or the fax indicated on the sheet provided in the course.  **This is different than the test summary.**  Please pay careful attention to instructions.

SURGICAL ORIENTATION:  (Surgeons**, Anesthesiologists** (MD/DO), OB/GYNs**, Urologists**, or CRNAs) - If you are NOT a surgeon**, anesthesiologist** (MD/DO), OB/GYN**, Urologist**, or CRNA, jump to part 3.

Surgeon**, anesthesiologist** (MD/DO), OB/GYN**, Urologists**, or CRNAs,  please plan to schedule time for Surgical Services Orientation. As part of your surgical orientation, you are learning to use Epic as it relates to surgical services. To assist with that, please provide the Surgical Services Facilitator with any Discharge Instructions you would like to give your patients after surgery.  Your discharge instructions are built into Epic so they are available to your patients.  When requesting a time for Surgical Services orientation, the time is tentative until you receive a confirmation from someone from the surgical service team.  You will receive a confirmation of request with contact information for members of the surgical services team.  If you do not receive a confirmation, it is your responsibility to confirm your request prior to your requested date.  Surgical Services Orientation is an IN-PERSON event with a member of the surgical services team and only takes place the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays each month at 8:00am. Please reach out to the surgical team DIRECTLY if this timing does not work with your schedule at Michael.Oshea@EEHealth.org or Bradley.Hlavacek@EEHealth.org.

**Surgical Orientation does not apply to any Allied Health Providers or cardiac/vascular surgeons.  Cardiac/vascular surgeons perform surgery in the Heart Hospital OR, which is separate from the general OR.

PART TWO:

Providers requesting inpatient privileges are required to complete an Epic Inpatient Training Course**. An Epic Clinical Support Specialist will reach out to providers for Epic training needs following online course completion.

**If you have previous Epic inpatient experience, you have the option of taking an assessment to test out of the Epic training. You must receive an 80% or higher to pass.  Training certificates from other institutions are not accepted as proof of proficiency. If you would like to test-out of training, please let the Epic Clinical Support Specialist know when you are contacted. The assessment must be completed prior to your personalization lab.

A subsequent personalization training class is also required prior to activating your privileges.  This personalization training class is scheduled based on availability and may require you to complete a separate training course after your initial Epic training. An Epic Clinical Support Specialist will schedule your Epic Personalization needs following your course completion.

PART THREE:

Part three will be explained in the course.
