Overview
Hypertension is the most common medical problem encountered during pregnancy, complicating up to 10% of pregnancies. Women who have chronic hypertension can also develop preeclampsia which affects 1 in 25 pregnancies in the United States. It can be a serious medical condition and needs to be treated to make sure it doesn't worsen. High blood pressures can occur postpartum and usually develop within the first 48 hours after childbirth, but can sometimes develop up to 6 weeks or later. This activity helps providers improve knowledge on the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension during pregnancy, management of preeclampsia, and postpartum hypertension.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. 1. Describe the pathophysiology of preeclampsia
  2. 2. Identify the basic management strategies for preeclampsia and postpartum hypertension
